Quick Summary
Kasa energy monitoring data that's stale, wrong, or not updating is almost always a sync issue between the plug and the cloud, or a display refresh problem in the app. A force-close and reopen of the app fixes it in most cases. If the data is consistently wrong (not just delayed), the plug's power sensor may need a reset.
Symptom Diagnosis
Step 1: Force Refresh the App Force close the Kasa app completely. Reopen it and navigate to the device's energy monitoring screen. Pull down to refresh if the option is available. Wait 30 seconds for live data to populate.
Step 2: Check Device Connectivity In the Kasa app, check if the device shows as online (green indicator). If offline: power cycle the plug (unplug for 30 seconds, plug back in). Energy data cannot update when the plug is offline.
Step 3: Check Time Zone Settings Kasa app → tap the device → Device Settings → Time Zone. Ensure the time zone matches your actual location. Incorrect time zones cause daily and monthly totals to reset at the wrong time.
Step 4: Clear App Cache On Android: Settings → Apps → Kasa → Storage → Clear Cache. On iPhone: delete and reinstall the app. Reopen the app and check energy data.
Step 5: Reset Energy Statistics Kasa app → tap the device → Energy Monitoring → look for a Reset or Clear Data option. Note: this permanently deletes historical energy data.
Step 6: Check Firmware Kasa app → tap the device → Device Settings → Firmware Update. Install any available updates. Energy monitoring accuracy has been improved in several firmware releases.
