Quick Summary
After changing your Wi-Fi router, Sonos speakers sometimes fail to reconnect and show as Not Found in the app. This happens because the speaker is still trying to connect to the old router's network name (SSID) or because the new router uses different security settings (WPA3 instead of WPA2). Sonos speakers need WPA2 or WPA2/WPA3 mixed mode; WPA3-only networks are not supported on older models. A full reset and re-setup is required.
Why Speakers Go Missing After Router Change The speaker is still configured for the old router's SSID and password. The new router uses WPA3 security (Sonos Gen 1–2 speakers don't support WPA3). The new router is on a different Wi-Fi channel, and the speaker can't find it. The speaker is too far from the new router (signal below -70 dBm).
Step 1: Confirm the Speaker Has Power Check that the speaker is plugged in and powered on. Look for LED indicators (usually on the back or bottom): Solid white/blue: Connected Flashing orange: Searching for network Off: No power or in standby If the LED is off, check the power cable and outlet.
Step 2: Check Your New Router's Wi-Fi Settings Log in to your new router's admin panel (typically 192.168.1.1). Verify that 2.4GHz Wi-Fi is enabled. Sonos speakers do NOT support 5GHz. Check the security setting: it should be WPA2 or WPA2/WPA3 mixed mode. If it's WPA3 only, change it to WPA2. Ensure the SSID is not hidden. Write down the SSID and password — you'll need them for re-setup.
Step 3: Factory Reset the Sonos Speaker Locate the reset button on the speaker (usually on the back or bottom). Press and hold the reset button for 5–10 seconds until the LED flashes orange. Release. The speaker will reboot into setup mode. Wait 30 seconds for the speaker to fully reset.
Step 4: Re-add the Speaker to Your System Open the Sonos app → + (top right) → Add Speaker. The app will search for nearby speakers in setup mode. Select your speaker from the list. Follow the in-app prompts to connect to your new Wi-Fi network. Enter your new router's SSID and password when prompted. Wait 2 minutes for the speaker to connect and update firmware (if needed).
Step 5: Verify Connection and Test Once the speaker shows as Connected in the app, test playback: Sonos app → Browse → select a music service → play a song. The speaker should play audio without interruption. If the speaker still won't connect, move it closer to the router and try again.
