Quick Summary
The Wemo app failing to connect to a device is almost always a network issue: the plug and your phone are on different networks, or the plug has lost its Wi-Fi connection. The fix is usually a power cycle followed by confirming both devices are on the same 2.4 GHz network. If that doesn't work, a factory reset and fresh setup takes about 3 minutes.
Symptom Diagnosis
Step 1: Power Cycle the Plug Unplug the Wemo device from the wall outlet. Wait 30 seconds. Plug back in and wait 2 minutes. Open the Wemo app and check if the device appears.
Step 2: Check Network Compatibility Wemo plugs require a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network. Go to your phone's Wi-Fi settings and confirm you're on the 2.4 GHz band. If your router uses the same SSID for both bands, temporarily disable 5 GHz in your router settings during setup.
Step 3: Check App Permissions On iPhone: Settings → Privacy → Local Network → ensure Wemo is enabled. On Android: Settings → Apps → Wemo → Permissions → ensure Location is enabled.
Step 4: Check Router AP Isolation Log into your router admin panel. Disable 'AP Isolation', 'Client Isolation', or 'Wireless Isolation' if enabled.
Step 5: Factory Reset the Plug Press and hold the reset button for 5 seconds until the LED flashes orange/amber. Open the Wemo app → tap '+' → Add a Wemo → follow the setup wizard.
Step 6: Reinstall the Wemo App Delete the Wemo app from your phone. Reinstall from the App Store or Google Play. Log in with your Wemo account and retry setup.
