Quick Summary
A flashing orange or red LED on a Wemo plug is the device's way of telling you something is wrong. Orange usually means it's in setup mode or has lost its Wi-Fi connection. Red typically means a firmware update failed or there's a hardware fault. Here's exactly what each pattern means and how to fix it.
LED Status Guide
Fix: Blinking Orange (Slow) — Setup Mode The plug is waiting to be configured. Open the Wemo app → tap '+' → Add a Wemo → follow the setup wizard.
Fix: Blinking Orange (Fast) — Wi-Fi Connection Failure Confirm your router is broadcasting a 2.4 GHz network. Move the plug closer to the router. Factory reset the plug and re-add with the correct Wi-Fi password.
Fix: Solid Orange — No Internet The plug is connected to your Wi-Fi but your router has no internet connection. Check if other devices can access the internet. If not: restart your router and modem.
Fix: Blinking Red — Firmware Update Failed Factory reset: press and hold the reset button for 5–10 seconds until the LED changes. Re-add the plug in the Wemo app. The app will attempt to install the firmware update again during setup. Ensure the plug stays powered and within range of the router during the update.
Fix: Solid Red — Hardware Fault A solid red LED that doesn't change after a factory reset indicates a hardware fault. Contact Belkin support at belkin.com/support with your model number.
