Quick Summary
A Wemo plug that repeatedly goes offline is almost always a Wi-Fi signal or router stability issue, not a plug hardware problem. The plug is more sensitive to weak signals and DHCP lease renewals than most devices. Fixing the Wi-Fi environment around the plug — or assigning it a static IP — solves this permanently in most cases.
Symptom Diagnosis
Step 1: Check Wi-Fi Signal Strength Move the Wemo plug closer to your router temporarily. If it stays online when closer, weak signal is the cause. Solutions: add a Wi-Fi extender, move the router, or use a mesh Wi-Fi system.
Step 2: Assign a Static IP Address Log into your router admin panel. Find the DHCP client list and locate the Wemo plug's MAC address. Assign a static (reserved) IP to the plug's MAC address. This prevents the router from changing the plug's IP address, eliminating DHCP-related dropouts.
Step 3: Disable Router Power-Saving Features In your router admin panel, look for 'Wireless Power Save Mode' or 'WMM Power Save'. Disable it. This feature can cause connected devices to be dropped during low-activity periods.
Step 4: Check for Wi-Fi Channel Interference Use a Wi-Fi analyser app to check which channels nearby networks are using. In your router settings, manually set the 2.4 GHz channel to 1, 6, or 11.
Step 5: Update Wemo Firmware Open the Wemo app → tap the device → Settings → Firmware Update. Install any available updates.
Step 6: Factory Reset and Re-Pair Press and hold the reset button for 5 seconds until the LED flashes. Re-add the plug in the Wemo app.
