Quick Summary
A Wemo plug that shows as 'Not Responding' in Apple Home or Alexa is almost always a cloud connectivity issue, not a hardware problem. The plug itself is usually working fine — it's the link between Wemo's cloud and Apple/Amazon's cloud that's broken. Restarting the plug and re-linking the skill/integration fixes it in most cases.
Symptom Diagnosis
Step 1: Test in the Wemo App First Open the Wemo app and try controlling the plug directly. If it works in the Wemo app but not in Apple Home or Alexa, the issue is with the third-party integration, not the plug itself.
Step 2: Power Cycle the Wemo Plug Unplug the Wemo device from the wall. Wait 30 seconds. Plug back in and wait 2 minutes for it to fully reconnect. Check Apple Home or Alexa — the device may come back online automatically.
Step 3: Fix Apple Home Integration Open the Home app → tap and hold the Wemo accessory → Accessory Settings → Remove Accessory. Open the Wemo app → tap the device → Settings → Apple Home → Add to Apple Home. Scan the HomeKit code or enter it manually.
Step 4: Fix Alexa Integration Open the Alexa app → More → Skills & Games → search 'Wemo'. Tap the Wemo skill → Disable Skill. Re-enable the skill and log in with your Wemo account. Tap Discover Devices to re-add the plug.
Step 5: Check Wemo Firmware Open the Wemo app → tap the device → Settings → Firmware Update. Install any available updates. Outdated firmware is a common cause of HomeKit and Alexa connectivity issues.
Step 6: Factory Reset and Re-Add Press and hold the reset button on the plug for 5 seconds until the LED flashes. Re-add the plug in the Wemo app. Then re-add to Apple Home or re-link the Alexa skill.
